Affordable Everyday Looks

I am constantly looking for fashionable, classic pieces that are affordable. During the week you can mainly find me in scrubs {I work full-time in the medical field} and when I come home I can more than likely be found in tees and leggings.

In the upcoming months, you will find me at soccer practices and games for M. Needless to say, my weekend attire is easy and comfortable. No heels for me at the soccer fields!

I've put together some easy, affordable and versatile looks for all of you busy ladies. These looks are great for sporting events, running errands, or simple yet put together looks during the day...some can even be sprused up for evening/date nights.

Enjoy and happy shopping!!

My Top 5 Beauty Products : January

I love trying new products, foods, getting new clothes...most of all beauty products. I swoon over the latest liquid lip products and could just die with excitement over new eye shadow pallets!

Granted, wanting and purchasing these items can get out of hand. I can almost assure you that the Hubs would cut me off financially.  I would have the best brows on the streets though! {sigh}

As a mom, a busy one at that, I think it's important to still look put together. Whether it's a little lipstick, mascara, maybe liven up those cheeks with a dash of blush. Sometime last year, I decided it was time to get back to "me". I felt sloppy and undone. It's so easy to forget about yourself when you are trying to get dinner prepared or think of what your kiddo needs for snack the next day. It's so easy to throw on clothes in the morning, put your hair in a bun and call it a day. And there's nothing wrong with that, I do it too. It's also easy to spend an extra 5-10 minutes to make me feel pretty :)

Lately, there have been quite a few things that I've gravitated towards. Besides our Family Favorites, I thought it would be fun to start a "Fabulous 5" series. I share with you my top 5 beauty and/or fashion favorites for the month.

So, let's get to it!

1. Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless Foundation : this foundation is amazing! I've been looking for a good foundation that didn't break the bank. Mainly a drugstore foundation that I could wear on a day to day basis. This. is. it. It is medium to full coverage and doesn't clog pores. I'm oily around my t-zone and it keeps me matte during wear. LOVE!

2. Aquaphor Lip Repair : so good for your lips. I am addicted to balms. I have been using this religiously for the past month. With the colder days among us, I've felt my lips were getting super dry. This takes care of it. I exfoliate my lips every morning and follow by this balm. Keeps them smooth all day!

3. ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip in Beeper : for $6.00, you can't beat this! It is super pigmented and long wearing. This has been a go-to lip color this past month.

4. Urban Decay Perversion Mascara : I received this as a gift for my birthday...and love it! I usually have 2-3 mascaras that I use at once and this is the one I've been reaching for on the daily. Gives my lashes lots of volume without clumps. They have travel versions of this if you don't want to splurge for the full size...I would definitely give it a try though!

5. Tartelette Amazonian Clay Matte Eyeshadow Palette :  this is an absolute MUST in your makeup collection! I feel like this is perfect for moms because there is no shimmer, all of the shadows are matte. It makes it look effortless while still put together. Great for everyday. My favorite shadows in this palette are Smarty Pants and Charmer.

Easy Camp Recipes

We've been going {mostly planning} a lot of camping trips this year. Mainly, because we're prepping and testing out our equipment for our big trip coming up. YIKES! We have about a month and half left. Time sure does fly!!

This past weekend we went out on our first camping trip of the year. Not much planning was involved...we pretty much picked a location nearby that had sites available and went for a day and night. Such a relaxing weekend. Cold but relaxing.

Blanco State Park

Since we were only going to be there for one day I opted for something quick and easy for lunch and dinner. For lunch we had Easy Campfire Pigs in a Blanket

We used refrigerated biscuit dough and wrapped each section onto a hot dog. We then wrapped each in a piece of aluminum foil and placed them on the grill over our burning fire ring. Make sure to keep turning them as they can burn pretty quickly...we learned this the hard way. Serve with ketchup and/or mustard and you have a quick and easy lunch!

For dinner I made Cheesy Beef & Potatoes. Super easy and you can prep this ahead of time too! You can brown the meat at home and peel/dice the potatoes at home too. We have a camp stove so I boiled the potatoes at the camp site-otherwise you can do this at home, as well. Once they were tender enough to my liking I added the browned ground beef, extra seasoning and shredded cheese. Cook until cheese is melted. You can even make these in foil packets over the fire too! Easy peasy!

Both recipes were very easy to make...and tasty too!

We had such a relaxing weekend at Blanco State Park. It's pretty quite and I'm sure it would be even better in the Spring or Summer time.

I was able to catch up on my reading too!

We went on a nice nature walk and then came back to roast marshmallows over the campfire. Marshmallow time is M's favorite. He likes his super "toasty".

What is your favorite thing to eat or do while camping? I have to admit that laying on that hammock with my book was a weekend highlight for me! :)

Discovering New Reads

One of my goals this year is to make time for "me". That includes reading. To me, reading is a happy place. Whether it's a physical book or on my Kindle, I love a good book. The Hubs will be the first to tell you that I can disengage for hours with a book in hand. I don't even know how many times I've stayed up way past midnight because I just need to know what happens at the end. Reading is such a relaxer for me....coffee {or wine} and a book = peace!

I really wish M took after me when it comes to reading. Sadly, his "it's boring" response is just like his Fathers. Not that he doesn't like books or reading...he just think it's fun...so therefore it's boring. There are a few books he does enjoy and has even asked me to buy {happy dance}.

Keep reading to see what his favorites are and what is currently being read at bedtime. I'm also sharing the books that are on my reading wish list and I'll share with you what I'm currently reading too!

Michael's Reads

We're loving the Flat Stanley Worldwide Adventure series. Since we want to travel more these are great for kids learning different parts of the world in a fun and entertaining way. If you go to the Flat Stanley website, you can even print out a Flat Stanley and take him with you on your own adventures! We have ours printed and ready to go!!

The Magic School Bus books have always been a favorite of mine and I love that M finds them interesting. He's really been enjoying the tv show {on Netflix} too!

Currently, we are reading Freckle Juice by Judy Blume. It's a fairly easy read-we try to read it together, with Michael being able to recognize his sight words and sounding words out. So far so good.

My Wishlist

360 Degrees Longitude by John Higham
See Me by Nicholas Sparks
Falling Into You by Jasinda Wilder
Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert
If I Stay by Gayle Forman
Sleep Tight by Rachel Abbott
When I Found You by Catherine Ryan Hyde
The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins
The Choice by Nicholas Sparks
Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty
A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman

Recently, a few friends and I started a book club. Our first book to read and discuss is A House in the Sky. I ordered mine via Amazon so I haven't received it yet...I can't wait to get started on it!

Currently, I'm reading Eat, Pray, Love. I know I've seen bits and pieces of the movie but have never read the book. When I found it at Half Price Books for $1-I was sold! I also found another book that was on my list...again for $1 and snagged that as well. Such a deal!! A couple of other books that are on my list are waiting to be read on my Kindle. I purchase them if I find them at a good price or a lot of times they can be free if you have a Kindle or the Kindle App.

I highly recommend checking Amazon and/or Half Price Books for your reads. If you have a Half Price Books in your area-I would definitely check there first. You can find great reads for as little as $1!!

Have you read any of the books on my list? I'm always look for new books to discover...leave your recommendations in the comments!

After a long discussion with the Husband...and M...yes he had his say in this as well. Anyhoo-we came up with our 2016 Family Bucket List
