Consignment shopping like a pro & GIVEAWAY!

I've always been a fan of gently used and vintage items...whether it be clothes or furniture. I can absolutely spend hours at a local Goodwill, vintage shop, consignment sale and/or garage sale-ing. I once scored a vintage Gucci bag [without straps] for a couple bucks at a Goodwill...I use it as makeup bag now.

I have no problem wearing gently used clothing either. Especially, when it comes to M. We've taught him that it's not about having new clothes or new toys...we need to be thankful to have clothes and toys in general. If we're able to, M and I will garage sale shop on Saturday mornings. It's one of our favorite things to do. He's able to bring his own money from his piggy bank and choose what he wants. He once scored a San Antonio Spurs jersey for $1! He was so excited :)

M and bargain shopping go way back. Little does he know, he and I were shopping together when he was in my belly :) When I was preggo, I attended the Just Between Friends consignment event. It was one of my first consignment sales EVER. I loved it and learned so much!

Lucky for you JBF is holding a Fall event just a couple of weekends away!

You still have time to consign if you'd like to be a part of the sale and make some extra cash for the holidays. OR if you're like me, and want to shop your little heart out-hop on over to their event page to register for tickets! [keep reading for a special treat ;)]

To make the most of your shopping experience, I'm sharing my tips on how to shop a consignment sale like a pro.

Sneak Peaks.
If eligible sign up for the pre-sale! First time momma's-this is YOU! Many, if not all, kid consignment sales have special days for new moms to shop. All of you first time moms, take advantage of this! First time grandma? This usually includes you too!

Organization.
Make a list! Take note of what you need and what you'd want. Shop the big items on your list first. Play kitchens, large toys, strollers, costumes, shoes...all high in demand items tend and will go first. Knowing what you are looking for in advance will help. The sales are divided into sections/departments making it easier to shop.

Sizes.
Make a list of your child's sizes. Both in clothing and shoes. Go up or down a few sizes as well. Brands vary in size, a size 24mo in one brand may vary well fit like a 2T in another brand.

Bring a friend.
Bringing a friend to shop with always makes the experience so much more enjoyable. You can also divide and conquer! You can share a couple of items on one another's list and shop in different directions.

Kids.
If possible, leave the kiddos at home. I know this is not always doable and I completely understand. Most of these kid consignment sales are kid-friendly. However, the last thing you'd want is to argue with your child about what toy to buy or for your child to get impatient. Been there done that. Not a great moment.

Dress Appropriately.
You will be on your feet. Unless heels are comfortable for you, bring comfy shoes ladies! The lines at these sales can get long and therefore you're standing for what seems like hours. Comfy shoes are key. Try to avoid bringing a large purse. You'll move around aisles and people easier. I tend to bring a wristlet or a crossbody bag.

Bring a shopping bag.
Although some consignment sales provide shopping bags [may include a small fee], it's not a bad idea to bring your own. A large shopping bag or small wheeling cart are great for these type of events.

Double Check.
Remember, all items are final sale. Once you have shopped till you dropped, double check your items. I once came home with a small tear on a shirt and was so disappointed. We're all human, things like small holes and stains can easily escape us. Double check your items. This is also the time to put away any items you no longer want. Buyers remorse is real ladies!!

HAVE FUN!
Last but not least-have fun!! I love these mom/kid consignment sales because you get to meet tons of moms and small business' in the area. Shopping and mingling? YAAASS!
