Life Update

As always, I take short breaks from Love Lipstick Legos. This has been the longest yet. And boy, do I miss it! A lot has happened and continues to happen since I last popped on here with a post. A lot. We are constantly on the go and a break from blogging was most definitely needed. A little recharge never hurt. As things are slowing down [who am I kidding..] as they are continuing to get crazier after the summer madness...more like my "life madness", I've decided to do a life update. Warning: it's a fairly lengthy post, grab a cup of joe [or wine-we don't judge], sit back and read on!

Sore for days!

I hope you find yourself having a great Friday! I [and my little family] are anxious to get our weekend started! A couple of weekends ago, we drove out to Nashville for a soccer game...this weekend we drive some more to yet another game.

July 13, 2017

Weekend trips, we love them. And as much as we love them, they drain all of our energy and leave us lethargic for the entire week. Am I right?

This past weekend we took a quick [and by quick I mean a 12 hour drive] to Nashville. The husband is a HUGE soccer fan and we try to go to as many US Mens National team as we can. Nashville just so happened to be on our radar.

Although hot, very hot, the game was full of energy. We are members of the American Outlaws, the USMNT support group, so we get pretty good seats to games. The atmosphere is always so hyped with chants and cheers. For those wondering, we tied with Panama at an ending score of 1-1.

Ensalada de Nopales

I hope you all are having a great start to your summer! The kiddo is out of school and while I thought I would catch a little break...nope, not one bit. Summer camp is in full effect, summer soccer training has started and I now have an eager child that by 7pm wants to know what we're doing for summer vacation. EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. [sigh] Is is August yet?

I've never been camping in the summer. We've always gone camping in the Fall or Winter months. Fear no more, a couple of weekends ago, I experienced summer camping to the fullest. While I wasn't a complete fan of all the bugs and heat that accompanied it, I loved being able to gaze up at the night sky from our tent. No rain fly completely changes everything. The universe is amazing. Tranquil indeed.

The Hubs and I don't get a lot of  "alone" time. Mostly because it's hard for us to find a sitter for M. We try though. We both believe it's extremely important for adult time in a relationship, date nights are the best!

It had been a couple of months since our last date night. We were long over due for a night out on the town. My parents were able to watch M for the dinner and dancing with the hubs were in our near future.

Homemade Cinnamon Berry Muesli

Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day. I love a good cup of coffee with a little bit of orange juice on the side. Breakfast food is my favorite. Pancakes, scrambled eggs with veggies and salsa, cereal, oats...all of it. I love!

For the past month I've changed my eating quite a bit. I went vegetarian to be exact. Mainly for health reasons. As of right now I don't know if I will ever go vegan. I would love to try it out at one point. For now, this works for me. Also I love eggs. I have completely cut out all meat and dairy from my diet otherwise. On the rare occasion I will have a little cheese but for the most part-no dairy. My love for coconut milk and yogurt is strong.

Oats have always been a quick way for us to do breakfast in the mornings. M loves plain oats with brown sugar and almond milk. After experimenting a bit I decided to make our own muesli. It can get so expensive in stores...why not make your own?! The pairing possibilities are endless. And you can make as much as you want! Best of all it's healthy, tastes amazing and just knowing YOU made it-makes it so much more gratifying.

If you've been following my blog for a bit, you know I'm an Amazon shopping kinda girl. 2-day shipping makes me happy. HOWEVER, yes-that's a big however...I have a love/hate relationship with Amazon when it comes to ordering clothing. You just never know what you are really going to get. Am I right?

I remember ordering a swimsuit...extremely cute, sexy but not slutty-loved it on the photo description the ad provided. It was serious granny panty style when I received it. Bummed.

I have not given up on Amazon clothing yet, we've ordered many things that were and still are worth our buys. M has a Pokemon jumpsuit I ordered him last winter that he loves. I've ordered shirts and other items that I swear by while the Hubs has shoes he wears regularly.

After many browsing sessions I came across this sundress and I just knew I had to have it. Prime? Of course!! I went ahead and splurged a bit...ordered a darling crossbody bag as well [under $20!] You guys. The dress and bag are one of those great moments when Amazon just comes thru on purchases! LOVE LOVE them both!! [*be sure to size up on the dress-i usually wear a medium and the large fit perfectly]

Phew. Is it Friday yet? This work week has definitely been one for the books. Jet lag is no joke. It's getting better but the headache and constant fatigue feeling...need. to. go. STAT.

Being back in the real world has been a little bittersweet. Missing the Thai life, street food + sandy beaches BUT having my little man and Lola close is like no other! Glad to be reunited with M and cannot wait to visit again as a family.

We arrived into town Easter Sunday, slept a bit and took off to meet with family. I didn't want to dress up as I was feeling tired but I knew showing up in my pj's was probably not a wise choice.

Showering in my own bathroom, doing something other than a bun on my hair and putting on some makeup has never felt better! It's the little things. I went for a t-shirt dress to spend the day in. This one from Forever21 is soft and super comfortable. It's true to size [i'm wearing a medium]. I have it in the light olive color but it also comes in a pretty dusty pink.

Travel Make-Up Bag

Minimal. That's what the Hubs said to me when we started packing and prepping for our Thailand trip. He even had the nerve to tell me that I didn't have to take make-up with. Can you believe it?! I know. I couldn't either. But I do...I get where he was coming from. We're going to a country with very hot temperatures and lots of humidity.

Of course I wasn't planning to wear a completely full face of make-up but I also don't want to look like the living dead in photos. My usual travel make-up bag consists of a large bag with multiple pockets and openings. Not on this trip. Minimal remember.

What's in my carry-on bag?

We're packed. Y'all. It's real. The day is finally here!! This is our first major international flight...and only packing the ultimate essentials. We're only taking one backpack...per person. One. Let me clarify...we're backpacking for 10 days so no suitcases. None. We'll be taking 2 carry-on with our clothing and another as our personal with things to keep us entertained on our flight. On our very long flight.

That being said I had to keep my "personal item" small. Typically I carry a larger bag with me and an extra purse to carry around during the day. Not this time. I searched high and low for the perfect bag to wear during the day [and night] on or trip. It's a pretty small bag but I manage to get quite a lot in it. As I was getting my bag ready, I thought it'd be fun to share what I like to carry with me during flights.

WELCOME to our new look! I have been MIA for some time now...this rebranding blog business is no joke. Many long nights and glasses of wine [oh, the torture] setting up the blog and getting it ready exactly how I envisioned it. So here it is...I'll wait while you look around. I hope you love it as much as I do!

We have so much going on these new couple of weeks. It's crunch time for the Hubs and I as we're getting ready to [finally] go on our much anticipated trip to Thailand! We cannot wait! There's still so much packing and cleaning and laundry to do before then...phew...I'm exhausted just thinking about it!

Road Trip Essentials

New year, new about new year, new travels?? Can I still say that considering we're in month 2 of 2017? Hmm...oh well! We took our first trip of the year last month and it was just the thing we needed to start off the year. Fun + memories! This weekend we are off to explore Carlsbad, NM. We can't wait!!

Since NM isn't too far from us we decided a quick weekend road trip would be the most cost efficient. If you've been on a road trip, no matter how short or how long, you know that the discomfort of being cooped in a car for a long period of time is no joke. However, road trips can be quite enjoyable! [we love them]

It all comes down to the essentials. You'll need to have snacks and hydration readily accessible. Music is a must. Have a camera handy to capture memories and later retell those amazing stories. Packing the right road trip essentials can easily make a long trip fun and one to always remember.

Valentine's Day : Gift Ideas

I know that everyone celebrates holidays differently. Some holidays may mean more than others, some don't get celebrated and some take much planning. The Hubs and I have never really celebrated Valentine's Day. Even while we were dating it wasn't a holiday we ever really went all out for. To us it's always just been another day. Last year we went on a family hike to "celebrate" family time during the Valentine holiday. This year we will stick with the hike tradition and get away to explore caverns in New Mexico. It's how we're choosing to celebrate Valentine's Day in our household...outside with adventure.

Because we don't typically celebrate Valentine's Day, we don't usually exchange gifts. This year though we decided on small meaningful gift exchanging. That husband of mine, he's not much of a patient one. A few days ago he insisted on giving me my gift. I refuse to look or open it until next week so you will have to wait until then to find out what I was given. M is getting a gift too...his very own travel journal...shhh don't tell him 😉

EVERYONE, you do not need to spend a ton on Valentine's Day gifts! If you're a last minute shopper and/or are pressed on time I'm all about Amazon Prime shopping! So many affordable gift options for everyone. You can find out more here. With Amazon Prime, you receive Prime eligible purchases in 2 days! 2 days!! If you have yet to get your significant other a gift or maybe a teacher, parents, or child keep reading for some affordable gift ideas, plus 2 day shipping with Prime!

Castelo Adventures: Margarita Crawl

A little late BUT I wanted to be consistent with posting our weekend adventures. I don't know when I'll be comfortable enough to vlog. It's on my goal list this year, though! I promise I will make an effort. Pinky swear.

In the meantime, pictures and descriptions will have to suffice. You can also follow me on snapchat for [mostly] daily updates! [mrsstephcastelo]

A few weeks ago during drinks, tacos and empanadas- a friend and I came up with a brilliant idea. Margarita Crawl! We live in the heart of Texas so it only seemed logic. Why had we not done this before?!

Castelo's Take 2017!

The holiday cheer has died down and the fireworks have long ago stopped...mid January and I'm getting back into the groove of post-holiday schedules.

I hope you all had a lovely time with family, friends...with all of your loved ones!

In 2016 we came up with our very first- family bucket list. You'll be happy to know we crossed off quite a few things off that list. Here's a little recap:

Go to Chicago [it was great to see how everything had changed...or stayed the same]

my childhood home! looks exactly the same.

made it to the City! had such a great time.
